Box Score TAMPA, Florida - The No. 20 University of Mount Olive baseball team fell to Georgia College 11-6 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in Tampa, Fla. UMO falls to 1-1 overall and, while Georgia College improves to 2-0.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive took the lead right out of the gate in the top of the first off an RBI-single from Alan Alonso, but Georgia College responded with a five-run bottom to take a 5-1 lead heading into the second.
UMO looked to have some momentum in the second as RBI by Junior Snow, Dusty Baker, and Joe Mason secured three runs and cut the deficit to 5-4. Once again the Bobcats had an answer as they countered with three runs as well and reextended the lead to four.
Georgia College held onto their lead for the middle part of the game extending their lead to 11-5 after a single run third and two-run sixth.
Mount Olive tried to comeback in the ninth as Alonso reached on a double and was brought home by Gunner Tolston to draw to within five. UMO only managed one more base runner as the Trojans fell 11-6.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Alan Alonso who went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Trent Joiner (0-1) got the loss for Mount Olive making it only two-thirds of an inning allowing five runs, three earned, and struck out one.
TAMPA LEADERS
The Spartans were led by Paul Grazzini with a team-high four RBI.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the bottom of the third when Tampa tacked on three runs to give the Spartans a four-run lead of which UMO could not come back from.
