Box Score

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 65-56 in Conference Carolinas action Monday afternoon. UMO improves to 14-4 overall and 11-3 in conference, while Erskine falls to 4-15, 4-10.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Erskine took the first seven points of the contest and the Trojans never saw an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead as the first quarter ended leading 16-11.

In the second quarter, after a made three-pointer by Erskine that expanded their lead to 19-13, UMO countered with a 15 point unanswered streak to put them in front 28-19. Erskine stopped the run with a bucket at the 2:29 mark, but the damage had already been done and even a four-point run to end the half by the Flying Fleet still left them in the hole 30-25 at the break.

The third quarter saw the Trojans push the lead back out to double digits with the first four points of the quarter. EC was able to get the deficit down to as low as seven but the Trojans ended the quarter on a seven-point run and took a 54-40 lead into the final frame.

The final quarter almost saw the Trojans lead evaporate as Erskine's ten-point run closed the gap to only four, 59-55 with under five to play. The scoring stalled for both teams but Mount Olive ended the game on a 6-to-1 advantage and took the 65-56 victory.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jada Bacchus with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Ivanda Hudjakova, Azariah Fields, and Sherry Johnson also had double-digit scoring performances with 18, 11, and 10 points respectively.

ERSKINE LEADERS
The Flying Fleet were led by Cheyenne Matson with a team-high 18 points.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the final quarter when UMO was able to hold off a late attack from Erskine and maintain their lead for the win and close out the contest on a 6-to-1 run.
