Trojans Cruise Past Warriors; 92-44

CENTRAL, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University 92-44 in Conference Carolinas action Monday afternoon. UMO improves to 13-4 overall and 10-3 in conference, while Southern Wesleyan falls to 1-17, 1-11.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive took the first four points of the contest and the Trojans never let their lead go as they expanded it to 13 as the first quarter ended leading 20-7.

In the second quarter, UMO started with a 13-0 run and did not see the Warriors make a bucket until the 4:39 mark. Following the basket, the Trojans scored six unanswered and ended the half with a 43-13 lead.

The third quarter saw the Trojans pick up the first points of the quarter just as they did at the start of the game and the UMO lead expanded to 32. Despite scoring the most points of any quarter thus far, SWU was unable to draw any closer to the Mount Olive lead as UMO had the final bucket with a three-pointer by Michelle Stewart and the Trojan lead moved to 73-26.

The final quarter almost saw the Warriors outscore the Trojans, but the deficit was still too great to overcome and with a 92-43 lead a last made free throw by SWU ended the game and Mount Olive took the 92-44 victory.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Makayla Nichols with 18 points. Azariah Fields also had a double-digit scoring performance with 10 points. Mount Olive saw scoring from 14 different Trojans in the contest.

SOUTHERN WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Warriors were led by Emily Waters with a team-high 11 points. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the opening quarter when the Trojans jumped out to a 20-7 lead, one that Southern Wesleyan could not recover from.

UP NEXT
Mount Olive will return to Kornegay Arena on January 25 for the annual Church Night games. The Trojans will take on Erskine College at 4 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.
