Women's Basketball Cruise Past Flying Fleet 80-66

DUE WEST, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team won their fifth game in a row after defeating the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 80-66 in Conference Carolinas action in Due West, SC. UMO improves to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference, while Erskine falls to 0-8, 0-4.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive got on the scoreboard first scoring the first four points of the contest before Erskine had a response. Following a made three-point jump shot and a layup for the Flying Fleet, UMO kicked it into another gear going on a 10-point run to extend their lead to 16-5 with under 4:30 to play in the opening period. EC responded with a basket, but Mount Olive ended the quarter with an 8-to-2 run and led 24-9.

In the second Erskine had a small eight-point run with under eight to play to draw within eight at 28-20, but that was as close as they got before the halftime horn sounded with the Trojans holding a 42-33 advantage.

The second half did not see much of a change in momentum as Mount Olive outscored Erskine 25-to-19 in the third and the final period was the lowest scoring of the game 14-13 in favor of the Flying Fleet but no comeback was in the works.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jada Bacchus with 21 points and 13 rebounds, her third consecutive double-double. Ivanda Hudjakova, Makayla Nichols, and Hope Toliver also joined in on the double-digit scoring with 20, 13, and 10 points respectively.

ERSKINE LEADERS
The Flying Fleet were led by Osha Makerson with a team-high 16 points. Zyria Gay also had double-digit points with 14. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in first-quarter following a 10-0 run by the Trojans that combined to be a 24-9 quarter proved to be all the momentum Mount Olive needed for the win.

UP NEXT
Mount Olive returns home to Kornegay Arena as they will host Limestone College. UMO and Limestone will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 5:30 PM in a Conference Carolinas contest.
