Box Score Mount Olive saw its five-match winning streak come to an end as the Trojans fell to Limestone 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Saturday at Gaffney, S.C. The loss was the Trojans' first this season in conference play.
Mount Olive (5-8 overall, 3-1 Conference Carolinas) dropped the first two sets and trailed 19-14 in the third set before Dezirae Mackey's kill highlighted a five-point Trojan run and tied the set 19-19. The Trojans took advantage of Limestone errors to forge a 22-22 tie, but the Saints scored the final three points to win the match.
Mount Olive jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set after back-to-back aces by Nicole Sparks. But Limestone (5-7, 3-1) answered with a 12-2 run and led the remainder of the set. The Saints built the lead to double digits at 20-10 after three consecutive service aces by Elayna Meachum. Mount Olive never got closer than seven points as Limestone took the opening set.
In the second set, Lauren Lee's kill pulled Mount Olive within 13-12 before Limestone started pulling away. A pair of Trojan errors contributed to a 5-1 Limestone run to give the Saints an 18-13 lead. The Trojans never got any closer than four points as Limestone grabbed a two-set lead.
Sarah Robertson and Carly White led Mount Olive offensively with seven kills apiece. Sparks finished with three aces and 15 digs, while Lauren Lee added 10 digs.
Limestone was led by Judy Slow with 10 kills. Meachum finished with a match-high five aces for the Saints.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to Elizabeth City State in a non-conference match-up. Mount Olive won in three sets at ECSU September 17. Match time is 7 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
