Box Score A penalty kick in the 27th minute was the difference as Mount Olive fell to Pfeiffer 1-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Amon Field. The loss was the Trojans' third in a row in conference play by a 1-0 score.
Mount Olive (2-7-1 overall, 0-4-0 Conference Carolinas) match Pfeiffer in shots by a 9-9 count and made a number of challenges late in the contest. The Trojans' best chance to even the match came in the 74th minute, but Katie Batson's header off of Lauren Power's corner kick service went just over the crossbar.
Pfeiffer (5-5-0, 2-3-0) capitalized on a foul in the box at the 26:14 mark. Kayla Rodriguez punched the ball in the upper 90 for the lone goal of the match.
Trojan goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy finished with four saves, while Falcon keeper Natalie Marsh recorded five saves.
Saturday's contest was part of Cancer Awareness Day on the MOC campus. Throughout the month of October, the Trojan athletics department is participating in the Cures for the Colors campaign with Southeastern Cancer Care, an organization in Goldsboro that provides support, material and services for cancer patients in Eastern North Carolina. The Trojan men's soccer team wore pink Saturday to represent breast cancer awareness.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
