If this past Saturday was Senior Day for the Trojan women's volleyball team, Tuesday night was Freshman Night.

Elyse Keating recorded 35 assists and three aces in three sets, while Montgomery Register and Sarah Watkins each tallied nine kills as the three freshmen helped Mount Olive overcome an 11-point loss in the first set for a 14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 victory over Limestone in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Tuesday at Kornegay Arena. Watkins added a match-high five blocks and Register had two aces.

With the win, Mount Olive officially clinched a berth in the 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament and moved into fourth place in the conference standings, a half-game ahead of Limestone. The top four teams in the final regular season standings host quarterfinal-round matches in the tournament.

After Mount Olive (11-13 overall, 8-6 Conference Carolinas) dropped the opening set, Trojan head coach Sarah Lusk started Keating at setter and Register at middle blocker in the second set. Keating served back-to-back aces to help stake Mount Olive to a 4-0 advantage and the Trojans led for the remainder of the set.

Register's kill on an overpass gave Mount Olive a 13-8 lead and capped a point that saw Charnel Austin make a diving dig and Nicole Sparks save the ball just in front of the Trojan bench. Keating's second-ball kill gave the Trojans their biggest lead of the set at 21-15.

Limestone (9-13, 7-6) climbed within 22-21 after Reagan Youngs' ace highlighted a three-point Saint run. After a Trojan side out, Danielle Plante's kill gave Mount Olive a 24-21 lead. Limestone saved two set points before Register's kill evened the match at a set apiece.

Mount Olive trailed 3-2 in the third set, but scored six of the next seven points and never trailed again at any time of the match. Watkins had a kill and a block during the run, while Register had two kills and a block and an assist on Watkins' kill. A pair of kills by Lauren Lee and a block by Register and Watkins helped Mount Olive build the lead to 17-10 and the margin never fell below four points.

The fourth set was all Mount Olive as the Trojans used an ace by Keating, two kills and two blocks by Watkins, and two kills and a block by Register to build a 9-0 lead. A kill by Plante and an ace by Austin gave Mount Olive its biggest lead at 17-6. Dezirae Mackey, who did not have any attack errors, ended the contest with a kill on match point.

Limestone broke away from a one-point lead in the first set as Erin Courtenay's kill capped a 10-3 run and gave the Saints a 20-12 advantage. Jessica Onken had two aces in the final four points to give Limestone the opening set.

Lee led Mount Olive with a match-high 13 kills and Mackey finished with eight kills in 12 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. Sparks led all players  with 19 digs, while Jordan Barnes had 10 digs and Austin added eight digs and two aces.

Courtenay led Limestone with 10 kills, while Onken had 31 assists to go with 12 digs and two aces. Courtenay, Nikki Eno and Jessica Johnson recorded five blocks apiece.

Mount Olive finishes regular season play with five road contests in nine days, starting Friday with a Conference Carolinas rematch at Barton. The Trojans, which won the first meeting 3-1 last Wednesday at Kornegay Arena, are a game behind Barton in the conference standings. Match time is 6 p.m. at Wilson, N.C.

The Trojans then travel to Raleigh, N.C., Saturday for a non-conference match-up against Saint Augustine's. Match time is also 6 p.m.
