Box Score Lauren Power scored the first goal of the game and Mount Olive nearly scored the game winner in the final seconds of the second overtime as the Trojans settled for a 1-1 tie against Limestone in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Gaffney, S.C. The tie is the Trojans' second of the year and their first in conference play.
Mount Olive (2-8-2 overall, 0-5-1 Conference Carolinas) broke a scoreless tie midway through the first half when Ellie Barnes crossed into the box from the right wing. Power drilled a shot in the upper right corner to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead at the 20:50 mark.
Limestone (4-4-3, 2-2-2) evened the match with 11 seconds left in the first half on Ciera Wall's goal. Mount Olive outshot Limestone 14-10, but neither team could find the back of the net the remainder of the match.
Mount Olive produced a wild flurry at the tail end of the match, but was unable to score. Power's shot with five seconds remaining hit the crossbar and Maddy Robak's follow-up was blocked just before the final horn.
Trojan goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy finished with four saves.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans travel to Hartsville, S.C., to take on former Conference Carolinas member Coker. Match time is 6 p.m.
