Box Score Ellie Barnes tallied a goal and an assist in a span of less than four minutes and freshman Stephanie McCoy recorded her first collegiate shutout as Mount Olive defeated St. Andrews 3-0 in non-conference women's soccer Tuesday at Amon Field. Maddy Robak and Christine Rocchio each added a goal as the Trojans did all of their scoring in the first half.
Mount Olive (2-6-1) broke a scoreless tie at the 11:26 mark as Carlee Bock's through ball between St. Andrews defenders found Barnes. The goal was Barnes' second of the season and the assist was the second this season for Bock.
The Trojans struck again at 15:14 as Barnes sent a service across the box and Robak's one-timer found the back of the net to extend Mount Olive's lead to 2-0. Robak's goal was her first of the season.
Mount Olive finished the scoring on Rocchio's penalty kick at 37:46. The goal was Rocchio's second of the year and the pk was the first by a Trojan this season.
The Trojans outshot the Knights 20-4 for the match. Mount Olive allowed St. Andrews (3-7-0) only one shot in the second half.
McCoy, who finished with one save, has started each of Mount Olive's last four matches in goal and has recorded a 0.73 goals against average in 370 minutes in the four starts.
St. Andrews starting goalkeeper Brittany Roberts recorded four saves in 21 minutes and Jessica Griffith finished with seven saves in 69 minutes.
Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans play host to Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
