Ellie Barnes gave Mount Olive an early lead, but three second-half goals broke a halftime tie as the Trojans fell to Pfeiffer 4-1 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Thursday at Misenheimer, N.C. The loss snapped the Trojans' two-match unbeaten streak.

Mount Olive (1-5-1 overall, 1-2-0 Conference Carolinas) made the most of its first shot of the match as Barnes put the Trojans on top 1-0 at the 9:54 mark. Barnes' shot deflected off a Pfeiffer defender into the goal inside the right post. The goal was the third of the season for the freshman, who put home the game-winner in the second overtime in the Trojans' 2-1 victory over King Saturday.

Pfeiffer (3-3-0, 2-1-0) outshot Mount Olive 7-2 in the first half, but the Falcons were unable to get on the scoreboard until their seventh shot. Stephanie Hardig captured a loose ball off a corner kick at 37:05 to tie the match 1-1 at intermission.

The Falcons took the lead for good nine minutes into the second half as Sarah Yates put home the rebound after Kayla Rodgriguez's free kick was deflected. Pfeiffer broke the game open with a pair of goals less than five minutes apart starting in the 70th minute.

Pfeiffer finished the match with an 18-8 shot advantage and converted two of its 10 corner kicks into goals. Mount Olive was held without a corner kick for the first time in five matches. Trojan goalkeeper Carolin Edenhofner and Falcon goalkeeper Brit Polly each recorded three saves.

The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but had to be pushed back due to severe weather.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans play host to Erskine in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Mount Olive defeated Erskine 3-0 last year at Due West, S.C. and is 6-1-2 against the Flying Fleet in the two teams' last nine meetings. Match time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
