Box Score Daisy Thomas and Maddy Robak scored first-half goals and Mount Olive's defense made them stand as the Trojans extended their conference winning streak to five with a 2-0 victory over Coker in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Tuesday at Amon Field. The Trojans have won five of their last six matches overall.
Mount Olive (7-8-1overall, 6-4-0 Conference Carolinas) got on the scoreboard quickly as Ellie Barnes found Thomas in the left side of the box. Thomas scored from 15 yards out to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead just 2:42 into the match.
The Trojans collected 14 shots in the first half and extended their lead to two goals in the 30th minute. Damilia Brooks carried the ball into the box, eluded a defender and played the ball to Robak at the top left of the box. Robak put the ball in the upper 90 to make it a 2-0 score.
Brooks had three shots in the next three saves and narrowly missed adding to the Trojans' lead. One shot was blocked, another hit the post and Coker goalkeeper Lizz Morris had one of her six first-half saves to keep Mount Olive's advantage at two goals at halftime.
Coker (4-11-2, 3-6-0) pressured more in the second half and had its best scoring chance off a restart in the 76th minute. Jenna Pacyna won the ball for the Cobras just above the box and struck a low line drive from 19 yards out. Trojan goalkeeper Carolin Edenhofner dove and made the save to preserve her fourth shutout and the team's fifth shutout of the season.
Edenhofner recorded five saves for Mount Olive, while Morris finished with 11 saves for Coker. The Trojans outshot the Cobras 20-9 for the match.
Tuesday's match was the Trojans' home finale. Mount Olive concludes regular season play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas action. Match time is 2 p.m.
Mount Olive has already clinched one of eight spots in the 2012 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament, which gets underway Monday.
