With over a decade of head coaching experience in NCAA Division III, Kevin Troup enters his first year as head coach at the University of Mount Olive in 2025.
Troup joins the Trojans after serving the previous seven seasons as the head coach at Greensboro College (2018-2024) of the USA South Athletic Conference. He was one of the most accomplished coaches in Pride volleyball history after amassing 103 career wins, which ranks second all-time at Greensboro. Under his leadership, the Pride eclipsed the 20-win mark in each of the last three seasons, which was accomplished for the first time since 2005-2007. Troup led Greensboro to the postseason in five of his seven years at the helm, including reaching the championship final in 2023.
With the Pride, Troup featured 12 All-Conference selections, including multiple major award winners. In 2024, he coached AVCA All-Region and USA South Libero of the Year, Morgan Mayfield, who ranked among the top five in NCAA Division III in total digs and broke the USA South single-season record with 6.23 digs per set. Additionally, Mayfield was a recipient of the USA South Rookie of the Year honor in 2023. Troup also guided the 2023 USA South Player of the Year, Payton Shiflet, who became just the fifth player in program history to garner the accolade. During the regular season, Shiflet led the league in offense averaging 5.10 points and 4.64 kills per set while also contributing 3.73 digs per set. She is just the third player in USA South volleyball history to be named USA South Rookie of the Year (2022) and Player of the Year (2023) in consecutive seasons. In the classroom, the Pride received academic recognition from the AVCA twice and featured 65 student-athletes on the Dean’s List.
Prior to Greensboro, Troup served a three-year stint as the head coach at Salem College, a fellow member of the USA South Athletic Conference. He orchestrated the largest turnaround of any Division III program from 2015-2017 by transitioning a 4-16 overall record to a 21-12 mark, which set a school record for single-season wins. He delivered postseason appearances in all three seasons during his tenure with the Spirits. Troup also coached the Maggie Hawks, the 2017 USA South Rookie of the Year in 2017, the first-ever recipient of the honor in program history.
In addition to his coaching experience at Salem, Troup has also served as an Assistant Coach at Winston-Salem State University (2007-2009) and made stops at R.J. Reynolds High School (2013-2014), Meadowlark Middle School (2012), and the Caldwell Academy (2011). Troup also currently serves as the Recruiting Coordinator at Champion Volleyball Club and has served with the organization since 2011.
Troup earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from Florida Atlantic University in 1999.
