Matthew Snyder

A graduate of the university, Matthew Snyder enters his first season as assistant coach at Mount Olive.

Snyder returned to UMO during the 2022-23 campaign as a graduate assistant and aided with the development of a pair of all-conference selections, including the 2023 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Laila Anderson. He also assisted with on-court skill groups, scouting, and recruiting for the Trojans.

Last season, the Trojans posted a 15-15 overall record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. UMO leads the league with turnovers per game (22.19) while ranking second in three-point defense (27.3). Additionally, Mount Olive finished second in the conference with 12.9 assists per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the field.

Before rejoining UMO, Snyder served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at LaGrange College and mentored a duo of first-team all-conference honorees in Jahpera McEachin and Gracie Brunel. During the 2021-22 campaign, the Panthers registered a 15-10 record with a 10-5 mark in conference play while advancing to the USA South Tournament quarterfinals. In his first year with the program, LaGrange produced an eight-game winning streak in a shortened-spring basketball season.

Snyder worked two seasons as a student assistant with the University of Mount Olive men's basketball team from 2018-20. He helped the program with on-court skill sessions, statistical analysis, and travel arrangements. Snyder also produced scouting reports for the women’s basketball team.

He was a men’s basketball camp instructor at the University of Maryland in 2019 and worked as a camp counselor for the men’s basketball program at Campbell University from 2016-19. Additionally, Snyder served as a manager for the Fighting Camels for two seasons.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure studies from the University of Mount Olive in 2020.
