David Heller was named head men's volleyball coach and assistant women's volleyball coach in August 2012.

Through his first five years at Mount Olive, Heller has compiled an 82-51 record (.617 winning percentage) as the Trojans have posted a .500 or better record each year.

Over the 2017 summer, Heller traveled to Taipei for the 2017 World University Games as an assistant coach for Team USA. The Americans went 2-4 during the tournament and finished 17th overall. It was the second time Heller was asked to join Team USA for the World University Games.

Heller led the Trojans to an 18-10 overall record in 2017 and went 14-4 against Conference Carolinas opponents. Mount Olive finished the season as tournament runners-up after defeating No. 2 King in the semifinals and falling to No. 1 Barton in the Conference Carolinas Championship match. Josh Donahue and Robert Poole were named to the 2017 All-Championship Team following the tournament. Five Trojans earned All-Conference Carolinas honors while Donohue was named the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, four student-athletes earned All-Conference Carolinas Academic team honorees.

The Trojans went 12-12, 11-7 in 2016 and concluded their season in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament. Peyton Schirman (1st-team) and Mike Mann (3rd-team) earned spots on the All-Conference Carolinas teams while Mann and Robert Poole earned All-Academic team honors.

Mount Olive went 15-11 in 2015 and advanced to the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Championship. Schirman was named to the All-Tournament team and four Trojans earned All-Conference honors under Heller's coaching.

During the summer of 2015, Heller was selected as an assistant coach for Team USA in the World University Games at Gwangju, South Korea

In his first year, Heller was named 2013 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year after guiding the Trojans to a 22-6 overall record and a regular season conference title with a 15-1 mark. In 2014, Mount Olive advanced to the championship match of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

Before arriving at Mount Olive, Heller spent the previous year in Durham, England, as both a college volleyball coach and a professional volleyball player. He served as head volleyball coach at Durham University and played professionally for Team Durham.

Heller previously spent four years as an assistant men's volleyball coach at national power Lewis University (Ill.). Heller earned his bachelor of arts degree in human communications and marketing at Lewis, where he was a member of the Flyers' men's volleyball team. He is currently working on his master's degree in marketing management from Durham University.
