Ali'i Keohohou

Ali'i Keohohou is starting his fourth year as the head coach of the men's volleyball team at the University of Mount Olive after taking this position in August 2018.

During the 2020 season, Keohohou coached the Trojans to a 12-7 overall record before the season was canceled due to Covid-19. The Trojans earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team Academic Award. 

In the 2019 season the Trojans finished 11-16 overall, ending their season in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinal against No. 5 Limestone. Keohohou coached five Trojans to All-Conference Honors including second-team honorees in Eric Visgitis, Tobi Azeez, and Joel Roberts and third team honorees Luke Visgitis and Shane Yeo. Additionally, the 2019 team earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Honors. 

Keohohou came to Mount Olive after spending a year and a half as a player and coach at Durham University in England, where former coach David Heller played and coached before coming to UMO.

Prior to his time at Durham University, the Hawai'i native coached at the Kamehameha Schools in Maui during the 2017 season. 

Keohohou attended California State University, Northridge (CSUN) where he played collegiate volleyball for the Matadors. He is the all-time record holder for career and single-season digs, as well as digs per set in a career and season. Keohohou was on the 2010 team that made a run to the NCAA Men's Volleyball Final Four.

Keohohou was named a 2009 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Honorable Mention honoree, a three-time academic honor roll member and a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member from 2008-2010.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from CSUN in Recreation Tourism Management with a focus in Sports Management and his Masters in Education from Durham University in Durham, England.

Advice to prospective student-athletes: Do not only work on your craft or sport, work at improving yourself as an individual as well.

Your goals as a coach: To teach student-athletes the value of hard work and competition in all areas of one's life.
