MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team earned a hard-fought result Saturday afternoon, playing UNC Pembroke to a 0-0 draw at Amon Field.

The Trojans (1-2-1) put together a strong defensive performance while generating several opportunities on the offensive end against the Braves.

Mount Olive held a 10-6 advantage in total shots and placed six attempts on goal. Yaneli Sanchez and Charlotte Benson led the Trojans with three shots each, while Sanchez recorded two shots on goal. Emma O'Rourke, Madyson Brown and Elie Lopez each added a shot on goal.

The Trojans applied consistent pressure during the second half, outshooting UNC Pembroke 8-3 over the final 45 minutes.

Goalkeeper Anais Coyne recorded four saves and posted her second shutout of the season, helping Mount Olive keep the Braves off the scoreboard throughout the full 90 minutes.

UNC Pembroke earned 12 corner kicks compared to three for the Trojans, but Mount Olive's defense stood strong to preserve the scoreless draw.

The tie moves Mount Olive to 1-2-1 overall on the season.

Mount Olive will look to build on Saturday's result in its next contest against Belmont Abbey on Sat., Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Belmont, N.C.
