WILSON — The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team fell 4-2 to rival Barton on Wednesday night at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
The Trojans (2-7, 1-5 Conference Carolinas) and Bulldogs traded goals in the opening half. Barton opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Leon Odongo leveled the match in the 32nd minute, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Drew Huff. Barton regained the lead just before halftime, taking a 2-1 advantage into the break.
Barton extended its lead early in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1. The Bulldogs added another goal in the 77th minute before Mount Olive answered just over a minute later.
Huff scored the second goal of the night in the 79th minute, converting a long breakaway with an assist from goalkeeper Kingston Ouellette.Â
Mount Olive finished the match with 14 shots, including four on goal, while Barton recorded 24 shots and 12 on target. Ouellette made eight saves in goal for the Trojans.
The Trojans return to action Saturday, traveling to Young Harris for a 3 p.m. Conference Carolinas matchup.
