MOUNT OLIVE – Battling steady 13 mph winds throughout the afternoon, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team played Converse to a 0-0 draw in a Conference Carolinas matchup Saturday at Amon Field.
The Trojans (4-3-3, 2-0-3 CC) controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting the Valkyries 15-10 while holding a 55 percent edge in possession despite the challenging conditions.
Mount Olive generated six shots in the opening half and continued to press after halftime with nine more attempts, but Converse goalkeeper Sofia Casares Herrasti turned away all five shots on target to preserve the draw.
Senior goalkeeper
Anais Coyne anchored the Trojan defense with eight saves, including six in the second half as Converse increased its attacking pressure down the stretch. The shutout marks Coyne's third clean sheet of the season.
Malia Acevedo led Mount Olive with a match-high five shots, while
Charlotte Benson added three attempts.

Jada Turner each tested the Valkyries' goalkeeper with shots on frame during the second half.
The Trojans successfully weathered a late Converse push, as Coyne denied chances in the 82nd and 90th minutes to secure the conference point.
Mount Olive returns to action next week as Conference Carolinas play continues with a trip to Wilson to face rival Barton on the road in an evening 7 p.m. matchup.
