Trojans Drop Three-Set Decision to Shorter

MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell to Shorter, 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-21), Saturday afternoon at Kornegay Arena.

The Trojans battled throughout the match, including a back-and-forth second set that featured 14 ties and six lead changes. Mount Olive held a 22-20 advantage late in the frame before Shorter rallied to claim the set, 26-24. The

Trojans also held an early 9-7 lead in the third set before the Hawks pulled ahead.

Kaitlyn Landis led the Trojans offensively with 12 kills while hitting .242 on 33 attacks. Rachel Clark added 11 kills on 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage, while Olivia Melvin recorded eight kills.

Lyndsay Reid finished with 30 assists and nine digs, while Kacey Gore contributed 16 digs. Landis added nine digs, and Clark recorded nine digs and a block.

Mount Olive finished the match with 40 kills and a .212 hitting percentage, while Shorter posted 43 kills and hit .261. The Trojans recorded four team blocks compared to Shorter's two.

The loss moves Mount Olive to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Shorter improves to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in league action.

The Trojans return to action against Chowan on Wednesday in Murfreesboro in a 6 p.m. matchup.
