BELMONT — The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team battled Belmont Abbey to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Trojans fell behind in the 32nd minute when Belmont Abbey's Caroline Roche found the back of the net off an assist from Haley Long. Mount Olive answered just over four minutes later, with
Yaneli Sanchez scoring her first goal of
the season in the 36th minute to even the match at 1-1.
After the halftime break, the Trojans generated increased offensive pressure, recording eight shots in the second half after managing just two in the opening 45 minutes. Sanchez led Mount Olive with four shots, including three on goal, while
Malia Acevedo added two shots on target.
Charlotte Benson finished with two shots, including one on goal.

Anais Coyne kept the Trojans level throughout the second half, recording two saves after halftime and five for the match.
The Trojans recorded 10 shots and seven shots on goal, while Belmont Abbey totaled 11 shots with seven on target.
Mount Olive also earned two corner kicks, both in the second half.
With the draw, Mount Olive moves to 1-2-2 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play, while Belmont Abbey moves to 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-2 in league action.
Mount Olive returns to action against Ferrum on Wednesday on the road for a 6 p.m. conference matchup.
