AIKEN, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team battled throughout Sunday afternoon's road contest but fell 2-0 to USC Aiken at the Pacer Pit.
Mount Olive created several opportunities early in the contest, with
Yaneli Sanchez and
Malia Acevedo each putting shots on goal during the opening 16 minutes. The Trojans continued to pressure the USC Aiken defense throughout the half, finishing the opening 45 minutes with six shots.
The Trojans entered halftime trailing 1-0 after USC Aiken scored in the third minute. Mount Olive goalkeeper
Anais Coyne kept the Trojans within striking distance, making two saves during the opening half.
Mount Olive continued to generate offensive chances in the second half, recording eight shots.

Malia Acevedo and
Tanya Granholm each registered shots on target, while
Madyson Brown added two attempts, including one on goal.
USC Aiken added its second goal in the 60th minute, but the Trojans continued to fight through the final 30 minutes. Mount Olive finished the contest with 14 total shots and seven shots on goal.
Coyne played all 90 minutes in goal for Mount Olive and finished with six saves.
The Trojans move to 1-1 on the season.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 2, hosting Virginia State at 2 p.m.
