Trojans Continue on to Championship Round in CC Torunament

The University of Mount Olive softball team edged No. 1 seed Francis Marion, 1-0, in game four to continue its postseason surge after a dramatic Conference Carolinas Tournament run.

After battling through a single-elimination contest and knocking off No. 2 seed Young Harris before defeating Southern Wesleyan, the Trojans once again rose to the occasion—this time in a tense, defensive showdown against the tournament's top seed. With the victory, Mount Olive not only extends its remarkable run but continues to stack momentum in pursuit of a championship.

Unlike the previous contest, offense came at a premium as both teams traded scoreless innings early. Mount Olive threatened in the third and fourth frames, putting runners on base, but the Patriots' defense held firm to keep the game locked at 0-0.

The turning point came in the fifth inning. Hadley Womack sparked Mount Olive's rally with a bunt single, setting up Samantha Taylor's clutch double to left field. Taylor drove in Womack, breaking the scoreless deadlock and putting the Trojans ahead 1-0. This decisive run shifted momentum and proved to be the difference in a tightly contested game.

Mount Olive's pitching staff faced continuous pressure as Francis Marion put runners on base in the late innings, but the Trojan defense remained composed and held firm.

The most dramatic moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the tying run threatening, Francis Marion looked poised to complete a late comeback, but Mount Olive delivered under pressure—cutting down the potential game-tying run at the plate in a chaotic sequence to seal the 1-0 victory.

Samantha Taylor led the way offensively with the game-winning RBI double, while Hadley Womack's hustle on the basepaths proved crucial in scoring the lone run.

With back-to-back statement wins over the No. 2 and No. 1 seeds, Mount Olive continues its improbable postseason push, proving it can win in a variety of ways. The Trojans now advance further into the Conference Carolinas Tournament, facing Francis Marion again in the championship matches after they clawed their way back in from the loser's bracket.  The game is scheduled for noon tomorrow, with another game after if necessary.
