DUNCAN, SC - Mount Olive's postseason run ended on championship day, as the Trojans lost twice to Francis Marion in the Conference Carolinas Championship, finishing as tournament runner-up.
The Trojans' bracket run included a single-elimination win, an upset over No. 2 seed Young Harris, and two wins against Southern Wesleyan and Francis Marion. On championship day, Mount Olive needed one win for the title but lost both games to Francis Marion, who claimed the championship.
In the opening game, Mount Olive generated early opportunities but was unable to capitalize, stranding runners in multiple innings. The game remained scoreless through the first three frames before Francis Marion broke through in the fourth inning. A two-out rally, highlighted by a three-RBI triple from Madalyn White, sparked a four-run inning that shifted momentum.
The Patriots continued to build their lead with a three-run fifth inning and added insurance in the sixth, pulling away for a 9-0 victory.
Facing a winner-take-all second game, the Trojans came out swinging.
Samantha Taylor set the tone with a leadoff double, and after leaving the bases loaded in the first, Mount Olive erupted in the second inning. A two-RBI triple from Taylor ignited a five-run frame, with
McKenzie Millard and
Emma King each driving in runs to give the Trojans a 5-2 lead.
Francis Marion answered immediately, tying the game in the bottom half before Mount Olive briefly regained the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from
Kynley Brewer, making it 6-5.
Francis Marion took control with a four-run third inning, then added runs in the fourth and sixth. Mount Olive couldn't rally, losing 14-6 in the final game to close out the 2026 season as conference runners-up.
The defeat brought an impressive tournament run to an end for the Trojans. They battled through elimination games, knocked off both the No. 2 and No. 1 seeds earlier in the bracket, and demonstrated their ability to compete at the highest level in Conference Carolinas.
