ROANOKE, Va. — The University of Mount Olive women's flag football team delivered a dominant performance on the road Wednesday, sweeping Hollins University with a pair of shutout victories, 18-0 and 6-0.
The Trojans set the tone early in game one, which was shortened, using a stifling defensive effort to hold Hollins to negative total offense while controlling the pace throughout the contest. Mount Olive struck quickly behind a standout performance from Kris'Shyia McKoy, who turned defense into offense with two interception returns for touchdowns, including returns of 18 and 10 yards.
McKoy's playmaking ability ignited the Trojans, while Alivia Conticello added a rushing touchdown to cap the 18-0 victory. Mount Olive's defense forced multiple turnovers and limited Hollins to just one first down in the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, which was delayed due to weather, the Trojans once again leaned on their defense to secure a 6-0 win. Despite the shortened format, Mount Olive remained in control, holding Hollins to just two total yards of offense.
McKoy continued to shine in game two, this time contributing on offense with a touchdown pass to Ji'Kayla Marshall for the game's lone score, sealing the sweep for Mount Olive.
Across both contests, the Trojans showcased a complete team effort, highlighted by lockdown defense and timely big plays from McKoy, who proved to be the difference-maker on both sides of the ball.
The Trojans hit the road Saturday, traveling to Banner Elk for matchups against Lees-McRae and King (Tenn.). Mount Olive is set to face Lees-McRae at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest against King.
