Trojans Fall to #6 NGU in Doubleheader

TIGERVILLE, SC — Mount Olive dropped a conference doubleheader to North Greenville on Saturday. They fell 3-2 in a tightly contested opener. The Crusaders secured a 7-1 victory in Game Two.
Game One - North Greenville 3, Mount Olive 2
Game One featured a strong pitching duel early. Mount Olive starter Aiden Newton recorded 10 strikeouts across seven innings. He limited North Greenville to just two runs during his outing.
The Trojans scored first in the fourth inning. Lane McLean got on base and moved into scoring position. He scored on Josh Mason's groundout to shortstop, putting Mount Olive ahead 1-0.
Mount Olive continued its scoring in the fifth. McLean was hit by a pitch and stole second. Jakhari Howard then singled to left center to drive him in, making it 2-0. The Trojans scored in both the fourth and fifth innings to build early momentum.
However, North Greenville responded with a run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 2-1, then tied the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI single up the middle.
The Crusaders took the lead in the eighth. They loaded the bases and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly.
Game One - North Greenville 7, Mount Olive 1
In Game Two, North Greenville struck first, capitalizing on a Mount Olive throwing error in the opening inning.
The Crusaders increased their lead in the third inning. Thomas Powell hit a solo home run to start the scoring, and later in the same inning, an RBI single made it 3-0 for the Crusaders.
Mount Olive generated its best offensive opportunity in the fifth. Josh Mason, Connor Tepatti, and Tanner Ferguson combined for three hits in the frame. Ferguson drove in Mason on an RBI single to trim the deficit to 3-1.
North Greenville remained in control late, with an RBI double in the sixth making it 4-1. Powell hit his second homer in the seventh to start a two-run inning, and the Crusaders scored once more in the eighth to cap the game.
Mount Olive managed five hits but could not keep up the offense. They went scoreless in eight of nine innings. North Greenville finished with 12 hits overall.
Mount Olive will return home on Tuesday to face Wingate in a non-conference game starting at 4:00 PM.
