FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. (March 28) – Following 11 back to back goals in the second quarter the Trojans end the game in a confident 21-8 win over the Emmanuel Lions on Saturday afternoon in conference play.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team secures a conference victory and proves to 9-3 this season. The Trojans remain a perfect 7-0 in the conference, meanwhile the Lions drop to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Sophomore
Morghan Pollock delivered a 10-point performance with six goals and 4 assists, while redshirt freshman Karsyn Elliot registered six points from four goals and two assists. Sophomore
Ava Mullen and senior
Maddy Fratus both had three goals Fratus with an assist. Seniors
Alexa Fitzgerald and
Katie Broom scored two goals Fitzgerald dealing one assist, then one last goal was scored by sophomore
Reese Weddle. Broom was the leader for draw controls with four and junior
Simone McCraw won three. Defensively, senior
Giavahna Gasdia, freshman
Libby Berg, and McCraw tallied two caused turnovers. McCraw and Pollock had three ground balls while Gasdia had two and Berg had one.
In the first quarter, Elliot scored the first goal of the game at 11;11 mark to take the 1-0 lead before Emmanuel answered with a goal in less than a minute. The Trojans regained the lead after scoring four consecutive goals in a span of five minutes before the Lions snuck in two goals before the end of the first half. Emmanuel answered back at the beginning of the second quarter, scoring two goals in just 20 seconds. Mount Olive called a timeout which led to 11 goals being put in the net in a row, two of them at the start of the third quarter.
With UMO having a lead of 11 points by the middle of the third the Lions were able to sneak in two goals before the end but not without the Trojans matching that. By the last quarter Mount Olive was up by 12 only allowing one more goal for the Lions. Broom, Fratus, and Mullen scored the last three goals of the game for the Trojans to end the game in a 21-8 win.
Junior goalkeeper
Ruby Burandt totaled six saves on 14 shots faced in her 60 minutes of action stealing five ground balls.
Mount Olive out shot their opponent by a 40-20 margin while going 18-22 on clearances.
The Trojans will continue to play on Saturday, April 4, against Young Harris in Conference Carolinas play at 11 a.m. for their last home event and celebrate their seniors.
