Trojans Take Down King in Four-Set Home Victory

MOUNT OLIVE The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team delivered a strong all-around performance Friday night, defeating King (Tenn.) in four sets (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22) inside Kornegay Arena.

Mount Olive controlled the match early, using efficient offense and a dominant presence at the net to take a 2-0 lead. The Trojans hit an impressive .333 in the opening set and followed it up with a .310 clip in set two, capitalizing on King errors while maintaining a high sideout percentage.

Leading the way offensively was Lucas Olszewski, who paced the Trojans with 12 kills, while Matthew Ekberg added 11 kills. Kory Grant also played a key role with eight kills, helping Mount Olive maintain balance across its attack.

Setter Luke Fredekind orchestrated the offense with 17 assists, guiding the Trojans to a .231 team hitting percentage. Defensively, Mount Olive made its mark at the net, totaling 13.5 team blocks compared to just 4.0 by King, a difference that proved pivotal throughout the match.

After dropping a tightly contested third set, the Trojans regrouped in the fourth. With the score knotted late, Mount Olive leaned on timely kills from Ekberg and Olszewski along with strong blocking to close out the match.

The Trojans continue their three-match homestand tomorrow, hosting Lees-McRae in a 2 p.m. matchup at Kornegay Arena.
