Box Score MOUNT OLIVE - Mount Olive men's tennis team earned an impressive 6–1 victory over Davis & Elkins College on Sunday afternoon in its home opener, marking the first win at Mount Olive for head coach Andrew Sendek.
The Trojans set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1–0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Kristoffer Dalbak and Bram Poel secured a 6–3 win over Philipp Fedorczuk and Justus Petersilie.
Rasmus Grindheim and Niklas Gruenefeldt followed with a 6–2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Simon Kiekbeld and Tom Strohschein, while Philip Peter Carstensen and Snyder Pearson completed the sweep with a 6–2 win at No. 3 doubles over Filippo Buffo and Christo Wirahadipoernomo.
Mount Olive carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Poel dominated at No. 2 singles with a 6–1, 6–1 win over Petersilie, while Gruenefeldt earned a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Wirahadipoernomo 6–0, 6–2. Grindheim followed with a 6–0, 6–2 win at No. 4 singles over Strohschein.
Carstensen added a hard-fought three-set win at No. 5 singles, outlasting Buffo 6–4, 2–6, 6–2, and Hiroma Nishikata closed the day with a 6–0, 6–2 victory over Santiago Ordonez at No. 6 singles.
The Trojans will look to build on the momentum from their home-opening win when they return to action on Wednesday, March 11, hosting in-state rival Barton College at 1 p.m. in Mount Olive.
