GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team opened the 2026 spring season with a 7-0 loss to Lander University on Friday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

The Trojans picked up an early bright spot in doubles play as Simone Szovan and Nina Bernier earned a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position. Lander responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.

In singles action, Mount Olive continued to compete across the lineup. Several matches featured extended games and tight sets, including a three-set battle at No. 4 singles where Julie Jagiella pushed her match into a deciding set. Despite the final score, the Trojans gained valuable match experience against a strong Lander squad in the season opener.

Mount Olive will look to build momentum as it continues nonconference play later this month against North Carolina Central on Friday, Feb.13 at 2 p.m. before traveling to face Coker on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
