MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team faced a strong NC Central squad on Wednesday, falling 7-0 in non-conference action.
Despite the final score, the Trojans showed resilience throughout singles play, highlighted by a tightly contested third singles match where
Nina Bernier pushed Mariana Zottoli to a first-set tiebreak before falling 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Victoria Calle also battled at the No. 2 position, forcing a second-set push before dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision.
In doubles action, Mount Olive picked up its lone win of the day at the top spot as Simon Szovan and Bernier earned a 6-4 victory over Alejandra Hidalgo and Zottoli. The Trojans remained competitive across all three doubles courts against a deep NC Central lineup.
Mount Olive stays on the road for its next contest, taking on the Cobra of Coker in Hartsville, S.C. on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
