Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short in Hard-Fought Home Battle

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team put together a strong effort on Saturday afternoon but dropped a tightly contested 69-63 decision to Converse in Conference Carolinas play at Kornegay Arena.

Mount Olive set the tone early, building a 36-28 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and aggressive play on both ends of the floor. Jada Priebe led the Trojans with a team-high 18 points while adding eight rebounds, and Kayla Jackson contributed 16 points and six rebounds to guide the offense. 

The Trojans continued to battle in the second half as Converse trimmed the deficit and eventually pulled even late in the third quarter. The fourth quarter featured a back-and-forth battle with multiple lead changes, as Mount Olive repeatedly answered Converse runs and briefly regained the advantage midway through the period.

Despite forcing late turnovers and creating scoring chances down the stretch, the Trojans were unable to capitalize in the final minute, as Converse sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Mount Olive will look to build on the performance as it continues Conference Carolinas action in the coming week hosting Barton on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
