Trojans Rally Late to Secure 7–5 Road Win Over Coker Cobras

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The Mount Olive Trojans showed resilience on the road Tuesday, scoring twice in the top of the ninth inning to earn a 7–5 victory over Coker.

Mount Olive struck in the second inning as Garrett Moffett doubled in a run before Ryder Hancock followed with an RBI single to give the Trojans an early 2–1 advantage. The Trojans bullpen would hold the Cobras scoreless for six consecutive innings after allowing one run in the opening frame.

After a solo home run from Malachi Gales in the sixth, Mount Olive added two more runs in the frame to extend the lead to 5–1, highlighted by a triple from Moffett and a sacrifice fly from Dawson Ables.

Coker mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs to tie the game at five. The Trojans responded immediately in the ninth, capitalizing on an error and a clutch two-RBI double from Lane McLean to regain the lead at 7–5.

On the mound, Aiden Newton earned the win in relief after working through the late-inning jam, while Carson Gipson closed the door in the ninth to secure the save. Mount Olive finished with 11 hits and played error-free defense to earn the win on the road.

Mount Olive will return to the road this weekend for a key conference series against
Belmont Abbey Crusaders, beginning with a single game on Friday, Feb. 20, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 21, in Belmont.
