BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Mount Olive men's volleyball team kept rolling on Saturday morning, sweeping King in straight sets, 25-14, 25-23, 25-18, at the Student Center Complex to extend its winning streak to four matches.
The Mount Olive Trojans set the tone early, controlling the opening frame behind efficient attacking and strong defensive play. Mount Olive hit .212 in the first set and never allowed King to gain momentum, cruising to a convincing 25-14 win.
Set two proved more competitive, as the Tornado pushed the Trojans late. Mount Olive responded with timely points down the stretch, leaning on its balanced offense and solid blocking to secure the 25-23 victory and take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
The Trojans closed out the sweep in the third set with their most efficient offensive performance of the match, hitting .444. Mount Olive capitalized on King errors while continuing to pressure at the net, pulling away late to earn the 25-18 decision and complete the 3-0 sweep.
Kory Grant led the Trojans offensively with a match-high 16 kills, hitting .517 on the day, while Brooks Ignosci added six kills. Matthew Ekberg chipped in four kills and Christos Savvidis contributed five.
Luca Colombo tallied 15 digs as Setter Jackson Lahey directed the offense with 30 assists, helping Mount Olive finish with a .250 team hitting percentage.
Defensively, the Trojans recorded seven total team blocks and were steady in the back row, limiting King's attack throughout the match. Mount Olive's strong all-around performance capped a successful weekend and extended the team's winning streak to four straight matches.
The Trojans look to extend their win streak against Erksine on Thursday in Due West, S.C. versus the fleet.
