Trojans Drain Season-High 16 Three-Pointers in Overtime Thriller at Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team pushed Southern Wesleyan to overtime before dropping a hard-fought 107–102 decision Friday evening at Tysinger Gymnasium.

Mount Olive shot 47.1 percent from three-point range and placed four players in double figures. The Trojans knocked down 16 three-pointers, which was a season-high, and shot 47.1 percent from deep, which is the second highest this season and the highest in a game with 10 or more threes.

Jefferson McLamb led the Trojans with a team-high 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers and adding five assists. Shane Peterson followed with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting performance, all three-pointers, while Matt Kirby contributed 16 points and six assists. Jaevian Alston added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Trojans came out strong offensively, scoring 37 points in the first half and taking a 37–35 lead into the break. Mount Olive shot 42.9 percent from beyond the arc in the opening period and led for over 14 minutes of the half.

Both teams traded runs throughout the second half, with neither side able to pull away. Mount Olive connected on nine three-pointers after halftime and erased multiple deficits late. Matt Kirby pulled up for a jump shot in the lane to give the Trojans a 91-89 lead, before SWU responded with a layup of their own to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period, Mount Olive briefly regained the lead behind a three-pointer from Peterson at the 1:50 mark, but Southern Wesleyan answered with timely second-chance points and went 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to seal the victory.

The Trojans return home Wednesday night to face the Patriots of Francis Marion at 7 p.m.
