FERRUM, Va. – The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team delivered one of its best performances of the season, rallying behind
Kaitlyn Landis and
Lyndsay Reid for a 3-1 win over Ferrum on Tuesday.
The Trojans improved to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in league play, while the Panthers dropped to 2-9 and 0-7 in conference action.
Mount Olive hit .440 in the third set with 12 kills and just one error, finishing with a better hitting percentage than Ferrum in every set.
Landis posted a 12-kill, 12-dig double-double. Reid added 16 assists and 17 digs, Caroline Sheaffer recorded 15 digs, and Breann Tanton tallied 21 assists.
Ferrum claimed the opening set 25-20 after a late 5-1 run, but Mount Olive answered by dominating the next three. The Trojans rolled to a 25-15 win in set two, fueled by an 8-0 run that stretched the lead to 20-10.
In set three, neither team led by more than a few points until Landis slammed a kill and Ferrum committed four straight errors, sealing a 25-19 win.
The Trojans trailed 8-6 early in set four before exploding on a 10-0 run, highlighted by kills from Ashlyn Haynie and Breann Resinger and an ace from Sheaffer. Mount Olive closed out the match with another 25-19 victory.
The Trojans committed a season-low 38 errors while forcing Ferrum into more miscues than any other opponent this year.
Mount Olive returns home this week to face Emmanuel on Friday at 6 p.m. in Kornegay Arena.
