Landis’ Career Night Powers Trojans Past Middle Georgia State, 3-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Junior outside/right-side hitter Kaitlyn Landis delivered a career-best performance to lead the University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Middle Georgia State at the Augusta Tri-Meet.

Landis smashed 20 kills, topping her previous high of 15 set against UNC Pembroke in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championships. She also notched her first career double-double with 20 kills and 16 digs.

Setters Lyndsay Reid and Breanna Tanton fueled the attack with a combined 42 assists. Tanton added her own double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs.

Mount Olive posted a season-high .222 hitting percentage (58 K, 23 E, 156 TA). Three of six Trojans with at least 10 swings hit over .300.

Defensively, the Trojans racked up a season-high 81 digs. Four players reached double figures: Caroline Sheaffer (23), Landis (16), Tanton (11), and Kacey Gore (11). At the net, Rachel Clark (2), Ashlyn Haynie (2), and Olivia Melvin (3) each tallied multiple block assists.

Later in the day, UMO pushed host Augusta to five sets before falling. Sheaffer (24) and Reid (21) each posted 20-plus digs, while Reid also handed out 22 assists. Tanton chipped in 17 assists. Haynie (11) and Melvin (14) powered the attack with double-digit kills.

The Trojans remain in Georgia to face Shorter in Rome on Saturday at 12 p.m.
