MURFREESBORO - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team defeated the Chowan Hawks in five-sets following one of the best offensive team performances of the season on Tuesday on the road.

The Trojans took on the Hawks in a mid-week game for their Conference Carolina's opener.

Not only did the Trojans put up a season-high 61 kills, they also held the Hawks to only 42 kills, which is the lowest the Trojans have held anyone all season.

Olivia Melvin led the way for the Trojans, totaling 16 kills, with Sam Widelski joining her with double-digit kills as well at 12. Six UMO players finished with six or more kills in the match: Melvin, Widelski, Kaityln Landis, Rachel Clark, Ashlyn Haynie, and Breanna Reisinger.

Widelski finished the contest with a double-double, totaling 12-kills along with 11 digs.

The Trojans won their comeback in the fifth-set after falling 7-3 early to the Hawks. An 8-0 run sparked by Widelski, helped secure the victory for UMO in set five, 15-10.

Mount Olive's next contest is its home opener against Belmont Abbey on Friday at 6 pm.
