Box Score MOUNT OLIVE (April 19) – In the Conference Carolinas regular season finale, the Trojans posted a 7-0 shutout victory at King on Saturday afternoon at King University Tennis Complex.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program improves to 10-9 overall with a 7-2 record in conference play. The Trojans clinched the No. 4 seed in the Conference Carolinas Championship next week and will compete against No. 9 North Greenville in the first round. Meanwhile, King falls to 8-12 this season behind a 1-8 mark in league action.
The Trojans swept the doubles session on Saturday to build an early 1-0 advantage to begin the match. The junior duo
Niklas Gruenefeldt and
Bram Poel registered a 7-5 win over Caetano Luzzi and Rhys Halcrow in the first slot before freshmen
Luke Oosthuizen and
Joao Matias Sonaglia delivered a 7-6 (9-7) victory against Mat Viera and Danny Neleman in the second doubles. In the third position, sophomore
Kody Baker and freshman
Hiroma Nishikata won by a 6-3 margin versus Bar Meshel and Rohan Chalisgaonkar to complete the sweep.
In the singles session, UMO claimed all six singles matches to seal a 7-0 win over the Tornado. Sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 over Meshel in the first slot before Gruenefeldt collected a 7-6 (6-4), 6-4 decision over Halcrow in the second singles. In the third position, Poel captured a 6-4, 6-4 victory versus Neleman while Nishikata produced a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) win in the fourth slot over Luzzi in the fourth slot. In the fifth singles, Sonaglia battled to a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) victory against Vieira before Baker collected a fast 6-2, 6-4 win versus Chalisgaonkar in the sixth position.
The Trojans will enter the Conference Carolinas Championship as the No. 4 seed and face No. 9 North Greenville in the first round on Thursday, April 24, at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina, at 5:30 p.m.
