Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. (March 29) – The University of Mount Olive men's tennis program continued its winning streak with a 5-2 victory at Young Harris on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play at Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Trojans collect a third straight win to improve to 7-7 this season behind a perfect 4-0 mark in league action. UMO holds a 3-0 record in the all-time series with Young Harris, including a postseason win in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Tournament. Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions drop to 5-12 overall with a 3-2 record in conference play.
UMO claimed two of the three matches in the doubles session to claim the opening point of the match. Sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak and junior
Philip Peter Carstensen battled to a 7-6 (7-5) victory in the first position over Mason Harmon and Noah Pawirodirjo. In the second doubles, the junior duo
Niklas Gruenefeldt and
Bram Poel registered a quick 6-1 win over Nils Vercruyssen and Parker Rowan, while freshmen
Luke Oosthuizen and
Joao Matias Sonaglia dropped a 2-6 decision to Greyson Williams and Gregor Gottein in the third slot.
The Trojans completed the 5-2 win in the singles portion of the match with four victories. Dalbak suffered a narrow 5-7 (5-7), 6-4, 0-1 (3-10) loss in the first position to Harmon before Gruenefeldt responded in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 victory versus Pawirodirjo. In the third singles, Poel registered a 6-2, 6-2 win against Williams before Carstensen lost via retirement with the match at 6-3, 1-6, 2-3 versus Gottein in the fourth slot. Sophomore
Hampus Hagglund won 6-4, 6-3 over Rowan in the fifth position while freshman
Hiroma Nishikata recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the sixth singles.
Mount Olive will be idle for nearly a week before hosting Emmanuel on Friday, April 4, at 2 p.m.
