LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 9) – Junior
Channie Jefferson established an NCAA standard in the 60-meter hurdles over the weekend, as the University of Mount Olive track & field program competed at the Liberty Open.
Jefferson hit the NCAA mark in the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 8.74 seconds in the prelims, which ranked as the third fastest time in program history. She ultimately finished eighth overall in the finals with a time of 8.95 seconds. Additionally, Jefferson improved her conference qualifying mark in the long jump with a leap of 5.63 meters.
Junior
Haniyyah Johnson posted a time of 7.87 seconds to reach the league standard in the 60-meter dash for the first time this season.
Freshman
Sanyiah Shields crossed the line in 25.46 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which ranked sixth all-time at Mount Olive.
Fellow freshman
Linn Andrea Lindevik improved her qualifying mark in the mile with a time of 5:20.42, the seventh-best time in program history.
Freshman
Zaria Washington registered a time of 9.23 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to improve her conference standard and move up to seventh all-time at UMO.
On the men's side, senior
Riley Willcox posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 1:56.08. Freshman
Titus Tanui also posted an improved mark in the event with a time of 1:57.28, which ranks seventh all-time at Mount Olive.
Freshman
Caleb Bass earned the third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 16.10 meters to improve his conference mark and move to ninth all-time in program history.
Sophomore
Adam Turner produced an improved mark of 14.18 meters in the shot put, which ranks ninth all-time at Mount Olive.
Fellow sophomore
Princeton Loch recorded an improved mark of 13.59 meters in the triple jump while competing in Virginia.
Freshman
Jacoby Pevia hit the conference-qualifying mark in the 200 meters with a time of 22.30 seconds.
Senior
Andrew Nixon registered a league mark of 50.52 seconds in the 400 meters, while junior
Zyshone White crossed the line in 7.04 seconds to qualify in the 60-meter dash.
The Trojans will return to action on Feb. 14-15 at the D1 Prenational Invite in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
