UMO dealt loss versus Campbell in exhibition, 7-0

Box Score BUIES CREEK, NC (Feb. 1) – In the opening match of the spring schedule, the Trojans fell by a final score of 7-0 at Campbell, a Division 1 opponent, in an exhibition match on Saturday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.

With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program continues preparation for its first official match next Saturday, Feb. 8, versus Lander. The Trojans were recently picked sixth in the preseason Conference Carolinas poll. Last season, the team featured seven freshmen on the roster, one of the youngest lineups in recent history. This marked the first match with head coach Julieta Boerr and graduate assistant Eric Del Valle at the helm.

Campbell secured the doubles point after winning two out of three matches against the Trojans. The sophomore Simone Szovan and freshman Nina Bernier won the first double 6-2 against Deren Ozel and Veronika Prospalova. The second doubles match was lost 2-6 by the sophomore Lara Stamereilers and sophomore Victoria Calle versus Sonia Pieczynska and Ofer Kivity. In the third doubles, freshman Claudia Cerdan and senior Sandra Riecken were dealt a loss by a score of 1-6 to Jessica Maras and Ilouna Aneca.

The Fighting Camels sealed a 7-0 victory after claiming all six singles matches against the Trojans. In the first singles, Stamereilers was defeated 3-6, 3-6 by Pieczynska while Cerdan fell by a 0-6, 0-6 margin in second position versus Kivity. Bernier competed in the third singles and was downed by a score of 2-6, 1-6 against Sandra Mari Marti. In the fourth singles, Calle suffered a close 0-6, 7-5, 0-1 (9-11) loss to Aneca, while Riecken fell by 1-6, 0-6 decision to Prospalova. In the sixth singles, the freshman Julie Jagiella suffered a 2-6, 0-6 loss while facing Maras.

The Trojans return to court on Saturday, Feb. 8, to face Lander in a non-conference match at 10 a.m. at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
