Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Feb. 1) – In its opening spring season match, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program lost in an exhibition match against Campbell, a Division I team, on Saturday afternoon by a 7-0 margin at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Trojans will continue preparing for their first official match next week on Friday, Feb. 7, when they face Lander in a regional matchup in Florence, South Carolina. Mount Olive was voted fourth in the preseason Conference Carolinas poll and returns with a good balance between an experienced lineup and freshmen under first-year head coach Julieta Boerr and graduate assistant Eric Del Valle.
The Trojans secured the doubles point after winning two of the three matches against Campbell. The sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak and junior
Philip Peter Carstensen lost the first double 3-6 against Adi Dagan and Alex Fragasso. The sophomore
Hampus Hagglund and freshman
Viggo Lindstrup versus Thomas Drapeau and Matias Lofink won the second doubles match 6-2. In the third doubles, freshmen
Joao Matias Sonaglia and
Luke Oosthuizen won by a score of 6-0 against Aleksander Hudjec and Luke Tollenaar.
The Fighting Camels sealed a 6-1 victory after claiming all six singles matches against the Trojans. In the first singles, Dalbak was defeated 2-6, 4-6 by Drapeau, while the junior
Bram Poel fell by a 5-7, 3-6 margin in the second position versus Dagan. Carstensen competed in the third singles and was downed by a score of 1-6, 4-6 against Tollenaar. In the fourth singles, Hagglund suffered a close 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 loss to Hudjec, while Lindstrup fell by a 3-6, 3-6 decision to Fragasso. Matias Sonaglia suffered a 2-6, 4-6 loss in the sixth singles while facing Lofink.
Mount Olive returns to the court on Friday, Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m., when they travel to Florence, South Carolina, to play against Lander at a neutral site.
