Alston Fuels Late Rally as Trojans Complete Comeback at North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. Mount Olive secured an 84–80 road victory over North Greenville on Saturday afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium, earning its second Conference Carolinas win of the season.

The Trojans battled through a back-and-forth first half that featured seven lead changes and three ties. Mount Olive stayed composed offensively, shooting 88.9 percent from the liberty stripe, converting 16 free throws in the opening 20 minutes to trail by just one, 40–39, at the break.

Mount Olive found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring North Greenville 45–40 behind efficient shooting and balanced scoring. The Trojans shot better than 53 percent from the field after halftime and connected on five three-pointers to maintain pressure throughout the period.

Jaevian Alston led Mount Olive with 21 points, attacking the paint and converting at the free-throw line, where he went 10-of-11. Christian Ananaba added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Shane Peterson chipped in nine points with three assists and three rebounds off the bench.

Mount Olive mounted its comeback in the second half after trailing by as many as 12 points. Alston played a pivotal role in a decisive 12–2 run over the final five minutes, scoring five points at the free-throw line, adding a layup, and coming up with a steal to pull the Trojans within two.

Moments later, a drive-and-kick from Shane Peterson found Alston at the top of the key, where he knocked down a wide-open three-pointer to give Mount Olive an 80–79 lead with 1:51 remaining. North Greenville answered with a free throw on the ensuing possession to tie the game at 80.

With just over a minute left, Matt Kirby initiated the offense and swung the ball to Christian Ananaba on the left wing, who found Alston in the corner. Alston attacked off the dribble, drove into the lane, stopped on a dime, and finished a right-handed hook shot to put the Trojans back in front, 82–80.

Mount Olive followed with a key defensive stand, as Ananaba helped on a mismatch before closing out to contest a pull-up jumper and securing the rebound to maintain possession.

Alston sealed the victory at the free-throw line, drawing a foul on a drive to the basket and converting both attempts with 13 seconds remaining to secure the 84–80 win.

Mount Olive's depth proved to be a key factor, as the Trojans held a 31–15 advantage in bench points and generated 13 second-chance points. The Trojans also capitalized at the foul line, finishing 26-of-30 from the stripe.

With the victory, Mount Olive improves to 5–5 overall and 2–1 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trojans face in-state rival Barton on the road Wednesday at 7 pm in Wilson.
