MOUNT OLIVE - The University of Mount Olive women's wrestling team turned in several strong performances over the weekend in the Trojan Women's Open, highlighted by Katie Simmons' first-place finish at 110 lbs and podium placements from Elaina Pollock (160 lbs, second) and Lilian Prendergast (103 lbs, third).

At 110 pounds, Simmons dominated her bracket with an unbeaten 4-0 record. She opened with a pin over Samaiya McAllister (Allen) in 2:10, followed by technical falls against Lana Reeves (Midway) and Zoeth Pardo (Unattached). Simmons capped off her run with a decisive 42-second pin over Elise Toste (Cumberland) to claim the title.

Pollock shined in the 160-pound division, advancing to the championship bout with three straight wins — a pair of technical falls and a pin over Micah Fisher (Cumberland). She ultimately finished runner-up after being pinned by Cathia Timas (Allen) in the final.

At 103 pounds, Prendergast rebounded from an early loss to place third. She notched two technical falls and a key decision over teammate Aspen Cook (8-4) before closing with an 11-1 tech fall against Mia Pardo (Unattached).

Elsewhere, Ahriana Scales (117 lbs) delivered a strong showing, placing third after going 4-1, including two wins over Kaylin Taylor (Cumberland) and a pin of Janyla Anderson (Apprentice School).
Andrea Smith (207 lbs) also secured a third-place finish after recording three pins, including a 4:08 fall over Lianna Davis (Allen).

Other Mount Olive competitors collecting wins included Zaria Robinson (207 lbs), Journey Land (180 lbs), Jailah Wilson (160 lbs), Bella Murillo (131 lbs), and Thalia Aguirre Gomez (103 lbs) — each earning at least one victory on the day.

The Trojans next tournament is in the competitive Blue Hose Challenge hosted by Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.
