EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The University of Mount Olive women's wrestling team opened its season with a strong performance at the East Stroudsburg Open, highlighted by Lily Prendergast's first-place finish at 103 pounds, Andrea Smith's third-place result at 207, and Katie Simmons and Journey Land placing fifth and sixth, respectively, to pace the Trojans.
Prendergast led the way for Mount Olive, going unbeaten through a dominant tournament run to capture the 103-pound title. After a first-round bye, she recorded a technical fall, a pin, and two decision victories — including an 8-1 win over East Stroudsburg's Olivia Klein in the championship match.
At 207 pounds, Smith claimed third place after earning two first-period pins, including a decisive fall over Gannon's Caroline Biegel to close her tournament.
Simmons delivered an outstanding performance at 110 pounds to finish fifth, tallying two technical falls and three pins in a strong showing that featured a 27-second fall over Eastern's Ana Morales.
Land battled through a deep 180-pound field to place sixth, collecting three pins, two technical falls, and a decision victory across seven matches to cap a busy day.
Mount Olive also saw standout efforts from several others, including Ahrianna Scales (117 lbs), who recorded two pins; Ayonna McNeil (124 lbs), who added both a pin and a tech fall; and Elaina Pollock (160 lbs), who totaled four pins and a tech fall in one of the day's most active brackets.
In total, the Trojans combined for 19 pins and 11 technical falls, marking an explosive start to the season and showcasing the team's depth across multiple weight classes.
Mount Olive finished sixth as a team, with Lehigh, Sacred Heart, East Stroudsburg, King, and Gannon taking the top five spots in the ESU Open.
The Trojans next competition is at the Trojan Women's Open hosted by UMO at Kornegay Arena. Wrestling will begin at 9:00 a.m.
