WINGATE — Kayla Jackson delivered one of the best performances of her career, but the University of Mount Olive fell 77–46 at Wingate in Monday's season opener.
Jackson scored 19 points on five three-pointers, setting new career highs in both categories. Her previous bests came on Nov. 25, 2023, when she scored 12 points and hit four threes against Mars Hill.
Savannah McAfee added an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double, including eight offensive boards. She grabbed more offensive rebounds than the entire Wingate roster, helping UMO outscore the Bulldogs 16–8 in second-chance points.
Wingate took control early with a 27–14 first-quarter lead and never let it go.
Jada Priebe also pulled down 10 rebounds and handed out a team-high four assists.
The Trojans return home Wednesday to face Livingstone in their home opener at 5:30 p.m.
