Trojans Battle Hard but Fall to King in Conference Carolinas First Round, 3–1

TIGERVILLE, S.C. — Mount Olive dropped a hard-fought 3–1 match to King (Tenn.) in the first round of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship, ending the Trojans' season at 12–17 overall and 10–10 in league play.

Two of the first three sets went to extras. In set one, King built a 21–13 lead before Mount Olive stormed back with a 10–2 run sparked by a Kaitlyn Landis kill. Olivia Melvin, Breanna Reisinger, and Sam Widelski added key swings while the Trojans capitalized on several King errors. Mount Olive grabbed a late 25–24 lead after a Danielle Parker kill, but King answered with a 3–0 run to take the set, 28–26.

The Trojans responded in set two, winning 26–24. After trading runs, Mount Olive held a 17–14 lead, then fell behind 19–17. King reached set point at 24–23, but Melvin delivered a block and a kill, and Widelski sealed the frame with another kill.


Set three stayed tight throughout. Trailing 22–18, Reisinger and Clark combined for a block, and Clark followed with a kill to cut the deficit to two. Mount Olive later pulled within 23–21 on a Kacey Gore kill, but King closed the set 25–22.


In set four, the Trojans erased a deficit with a 6–1 run and took an 18–17 lead behind three kills from Widelski. King answered with an 8–4 push to win the set 25–23 and the match.


Melvin led Mount Olive with 14 kills, followed by Widelski and Landis with 10 each, and Reisinger with seven. Widelski posted a double-double (10 kills, 16 digs), while setters Reid (19 assists, 10 digs) and Tanton (22 assists, nine digs) anchored the offense. Gore recorded a career-high 32 digs, and Marleigh Cooper added 16.
