MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team buried a 3-0 shutout over Ferrum College in the regular season finale Saturday evening.
The Trojans, with the win, move to 3-8-6, with a conference record of 2-5-5. The Panthers drop to 4-8-3 overall, with a 2-8-2 record in league play.
Mount Olive struck first in the ninth minute when
Manny Duran buried a shot to give the Trojans the lead. UMO kept the pressure on throughout the first half, earning seven corner kicks and forcing several saves from the Ferrum goalkeeper.
The Trojans came out strong in the second half and quickly doubled their lead with a goal in the 49th minute by
Kayden Richter on a setup in front of goal to make it 2-0. Only five minutes later, Richter struck again, recording his second goal of the match to extend the advantage to 3-0.
With that result, UMO recorded 12 corners, tying the team's season high. Additionally, UMO had the second most goals scored this season, capped off by Richter's third multi-goal performance of the season.
Nick Cutlip finished the night with two crucial saves to secure the victory and his fifth shutout of the season.
Mount Olive opens the First Rounds of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championships on Nov. 5 on the road.
