Mount Olive, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Virginia State Saturday evening.
UMO controlled much of the first half, creating several chances but couldn't find the back of the net. The Trojans finally broke through in the 62nd minute when
Kayden Richter scored to give UMO a 1-0 lead. Richter now has seven goals on the season, leading the team in points and goals. Additionally, he is tied for sixth in the conference for most goals scored.
Virginia State answered nine minutes later, evening the match at 1-1.
Mount Olive kept the pressure on late, forcing 13 total saves on 25 total shots from VSU goalkeeper Elijah Fernandez, but couldn't find the winner.
Mount Olive returns home Oct. 28 to take the field against Barton at 7:00 PM.
