ELON, N.C. (Sept. 6) – The Trojans featured a duo in the top-30 overall on Friday night and finished sixth in the team standings at the Elon Opener.
The University of Mount Olive men's cross country program totaled 139 points after featuring 10 runners in the field. Davidson captured the team title after scoring 27 points behind four individuals in the top-10 on the leaderboard. Charlotte placed second with 42 points at the nine-team event while host Elon finished third overall with 84 points.
Senior
Aman Tsegay led the Trojans after recording a 24th-place finish behind a time of 19:37.9 while competing in the six-kilometer race on Friday night. Fellow senior
Riley Willcox finished five spots back in 29th after crossing the line in 19:47.6 in a field of nearly 90 competitors.
Junior
Josh Hendren placed third on the team and 39th overall with a time of 20:17.1 while freshman
Ayden Thompson finished in 44th place in his collegiate debut with a time of 20:21.6. Sophomore
Evan Hall rounded out the team scorers with a time of 20:43.3 to place 48th for Mount Olive.
Additionally, freshman
Titus Tanui crossed the line in 21:01.8 to finish 53rd in his collegiate debut while senior
Richard Villafranco placed 58th overall with a time of 21:27.0. A trio of freshman
James Cabrera (62nd, 22:04.5),
Cullen Pfanmiller (64th, 22:22.4), and
Adam Hill (70th, 24:13.6) also competed in their first college race.
Davidson sophomore John Cooper won the race by 2.8 seconds with a final time of 18:29.7 to clinch the individual crown.
Mount Olive returns to action next week at the Queens City Invite on Friday, Sept. 13, at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
